SitecoreAI is what Sitecore now calls the product that used to be XM Cloud. XM Cloud launched in 2022 as the SaaS version of the core CMS, and in late 2025 Sitecore relaunched it with generative AI features and the new name. Search interest in Sitecore AI jumped around that launch, and the certification was renamed to match: the SitecoreAI CMS Developer Certification, sitting alongside the older Sitecore 10 .NET Developer exam. The course itself is around 14 hours of self-paced material mixing text, videos, animated GIFs, knowledge checks and labs. It is a sensible tour of how the SaaS product is put together: sites and site collections, headless rendering, content modelling, deployment and the developer tooling around it.
For someone who has spent years in classic Sitecore XP, that orientation is valuable, because the mental model really has changed. The name oversells the AI part. For developers, the AI editing and generation features get very little time; they live in the separate SitecoreAI CMS for Marketers material. A developer who finishes this course will know how to stand up and deploy a SitecoreAI site, but will not have learned much about how the AI features work, what data they send where, or how to govern them. That seems backwards to me.
Developers are the people who will be asked about data handling and prompt guardrails when legal gets involved. The exam is 60 multiple-choice questions in two hours through Kryterion Webassessor, closed book, with an 80 percent pass mark. That is a high bar for a recall test, and the course barely asks you to write code, so passing says more about how well you remember the product than how well you build with it. Pricing is a mess: we have seen the exam listed at $165 in the Learning shop and $330 elsewhere, and the bundles add eLearning, instructor-led sessions and a voucher on top. Check what your employer or partner agreement includes before paying yourself.
On the plus side, Sitecore certifications do not currently expire, though Sitecore has said expiry guidelines are coming. My view: good for a partner developer who needs to be certified for a bid, fine as a structured way into the SaaS product, and not an AI course in any meaningful sense.
