Palantir has a reputation for being impossible to learn unless someone hires you and gives you a login. For most of its history that was true. Learn Palantir, paired with the free AIP Developer Tier, is the change that matters here. You sign up, you get a working environment, and the courses walk you through building in it. The catalogue is split into Speedruns and Deep Dives.
Speedruns are the part I would point people to. Speedrun: Your First End-to-End Workflow gets you through the core Foundry apps in about an hour, and Speedrun: Your First AIP Workflow has you build a small AI assistant in 60 to 90 minutes. Newer additions cover data science fundamentals and a first agentic AIP workflow. They are tightly scoped and end with something that runs, which is the right design for a platform this large.
Deep Dives are longer and go into specific areas like the Ontology and pipeline building. You get a completion badge after each course and quiz. What the courses do well is make the Ontology click. Palantir's whole bet is that you model your business objects and actions once, and then both apps and LLMs work against that model rather than raw tables. Seeing an AIP assistant call an Ontology action is the moment most people understand why companies pay for this.
What the courses do not do is tell you when that bet is wrong. There is no honest discussion of lock-in, of what happens to your Ontology if you leave, or of how the same work would look in an open stack. I would not expect a vendor to volunteer that, but it means you should not treat this as general data engineering education. The certifications are where it gets awkward. There are two, Foundry Data Engineer and Foundry Application Developer.
The Data Engineer exam is 60 questions in 120 minutes with a 70 percent pass mark, in multiple-choice, hotspot and matching formats, and you cannot go back to earlier questions. There is a 14 day wait between attempts. Palantir does not publish the price anywhere. You are told to contact your Palantir point of contact or Foundry administrator, and exam access runs through single-use promo codes handed out by organisations.
For an independent learner that is close to a closed door. There is also no AIP certification, even though AIP is the reason search interest in Palantir training has picked up. Plenty of third-party sites sell Palantir certification prep and AIP courses; none of that is official. My take: the free tier plus Speedruns is one of the better vendor learning setups I have looked at, because it lets you touch the real thing. The credential side still reflects Palantir's enterprise-first habits.
