Detailed Review

Prompt Writing 101 offers a one-hour introduction to the basics of writing effective prompts for AI tools. You learn about clarity, specificity, context-setting, and iterative refinement of prompts. The class touches on common mistakes and provides a few frameworks for structuring prompts across different use cases. As with the other free GA classes, this is more of an appetizer than a meal.

One hour is simply not enough time to develop meaningful prompt engineering skills. The class does not cover advanced techniques like chain-of-thought prompting, few-shot learning, or system prompt design, which are where the real value lies. For the price of free and one hour, there is no risk in attending. But set your expectations accordingly.

If you want to genuinely improve your prompt engineering skills, you will need to invest in a longer course or dedicate time to systematic self-study with resources like Anthropic's prompt engineering documentation or OpenAI's best practices guide.

The Verdict

A harmless free intro, but serious prompt engineering skills require much more depth. Consider this a sampler, not a course.
